And though I’m really trying, I think I may start crying…

June 8, 2008

I’m sure we’ve all heard at least one version of this song, be it the original by the Ronettes, this one which seems to be the most accessible, or The Ramones sub-par cover, among others. The reason I post that one is because while it is the most accessible, and nothing like the original, it is quite good.

Pop music has always had this very strong presence, especially regarding love. The Ronettes make it cute; it’s stuck in the 50s, it’s girls singing, so it can’t be weird. The Ramones sound a bit flat, but otherwise it’s still the same song.

According to chords sites, the song is only 3 chords long, over and over. Add some piano and drums in the beginning. Backing vocals always help, even more so with the catchy “Nah-nah-nah/nah-nah-nah-nah”s after the chorus. It doesn’t get much more orchestrated than that, but boy oh boy, is this pop music at its best.
