Nick And Norah

April 4, 2009

I saw it. I didn’t particularly like it, but it also wasn’t bad at all.

I didn’t like how it was ‘moved’ by Napoleon Dynamite. I didn’t like how it was completely home made, strangely enough. I didn’t like how it was indie and awkward and how indie and awkward can we make the movie?

But it was a basic love story, with indie music. About music. And the love of music.

The only good part of the movie, especially for the pseudo-high schoolers in the movie, was one of the characters talking about The Beatles’ “I Wanna Hold Your Hand.” Something about not wanting love and marriage, but just wanting to hold your hand. Pitchfork described it best – punk and twee, before either was invented.

I wonder how much of a Pitchfork wanna be movie it was…
