How To Become A Movie Director

August 2, 2009

1. Have a job so you can fund your movie.
2. Have a job where you have terrible hours – up early one day, working late the next, and potentially reversed back to back.
3. Have a job where you are on your feet all day. Or be a lazy director.
4. Have a job that is so boring you daydream to escape reality. Escaping reality is half of what movies are about!
5. Have a job where you can hide in corners and write down your escaping reality ideas.
6. Have a job where you get blamed for everything, even when it’s not your fault. You will disappoint fans and critics anyways.
7. Have a job where you can see people’s interactions. Dialogue has to sound real.
8. Have a job where everything is symmetrically boring, cause symmetry looks nice on screen, but isn’t the movie.
9. Have a job where some days you’re doing the dirty work and other days you’re cleaning house.
10. Have a job where you can meet people, lose people, and learn to work without them.

I work in retail. I think I can be a movie director.
